Rag Rug Making

Darn that hole in your sock!

  • Swansea Community Workshops|High Street

Service Description

Come along and learn the art of latch hook rag rug making. You will use reclaimed fabrics to create a "shaggy" rug, just right for keeping your feet warm as you hop out of bed. This session will get you started on your rug making journey, and will give you the skills and fabrics to continue in your own time. You may, afterwards, choose to join us during our weekly Stitching Thursday, to continue your project in company, and with the support of our experienced tutor. Alternatively you can purchase a latch hook tool during your session to allow you to work at home. If you have any old T shirts/fleece tops or blankets/worn out towels that you would like to bring along to add to our fabric bag to make the rugs, then we would be very grateful! This workshop is part of the Winter Warmers series, which has been sponsored by Swansea Community Workshops, with funding from the Community Matters Fund. It is provided free to participants who are experiencing fuel poverty: the Welsh Government defines a fuel poor household as “being in fuel poverty if they are unable to keep their home warm at a reasonable cost. This is measured as any household needing to pay more than 10% of their full household income to maintain a satisfactory heating regime.” If you wish to attend the course but do not meet the criteria there are a limited number of places available at a cost of £15. In both cases, please book using the following link: Booking a place is essential: I will be unable to accommodate walk in participants.
