Mending Knitwear

Darn that hole in your sock!

  • 3 hours
  • Swansea Community Workshops|High Street

Service Description

Save that favourite jumper, or give those socks a new lease of life! Darning used to be a skill that was constantly used to extend the life of our knitted garments, but is now a dying art. In this session you will be shown a variety of ways to mend holes - including duplicate stitch, Swiss Darning, Scots Darning and weaving. If you have knitted garments with small holes that you would like to mend, bring them along with you. This workshop is part of the Winter Warmers series, which has been sponsored by Swansea Community Workshops, with funding from the Community Matters Fund. It is provided free to participants who are experiencing fuel poverty: the Welsh Government defines a fuel poor household as “being in fuel poverty if they are unable to keep their home warm at a reasonable cost. This is measured as any household needing to pay more than 10% of their full household income to maintain a satisfactory heating regime.” If you wish to attend the course but do not meet the criteria there are a limited number of places available at a cost of £15. In both cases, please book using the following link: Booking a place is essential: I will be unable to accommodate walk in participants.
