How to mend your clothes

essential techniques for beginners

  • Swansea Community Workshops|High Street

Service Description

Save money and step away from the fast fashion rollercoaster by learning how to mend your clothes! You will learn several vital handstitches: running stitch, backstitch, herringbone stitch, blanket stitch and ladder stitch, and how to utilise them to fix small holes, split seams and unravelled hems. You will also learn how to sew on a button, to patch a hole and, if time permits, how to replace the zip on a pair of jeans. This workshop is part of the Winter Warmers series, which has been sponsored by Swansea Community Workshops, with funding from the Community Matters Fund. It is provided free to participants who are experiencing fuel poverty: the Welsh Government defines a fuel poor household as “being in fuel poverty if they are unable to keep their home warm at a reasonable cost. This is measured as any household needing to pay more than 10% of their full household income to maintain a satisfactory heating regime.” If you wish to attend the course but do not meet the criteria there are a limited number of places available at a cost of £15. In both cases, please book using the following link: Booking a place is essential: I will be unable to accommodate walk in participants.
